01 / 40th anniversary
The 40th anniversary
The fortieth anniversary is ruby. Its light usually set out long before either of them was born, and arrived the day they married.
You give us a date, a time and a place. We compute the point that was directly overhead at that moment,
the zenith, and match the real, catalogued galaxy nearest to it that is still unassigned. The artwork is a
telescope photograph of that galaxy, finished for print, with the place, the date and up to
sixty characters of your words beneath it, in a black wood box frame behind acrylic glazing.

The traditional 40th anniversary material is ruby. This is a modern alternative that celebrates the day itself; many couples pair it with a small traditional gift.
Is the galaxy really photographed?
Yes. Each artwork is made from a telescope photograph of that galaxy, from the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys or Pan-STARRS1, finished for print. Its shape, orientation and scale are the telescope's own.
How much does it cost?
From $290 for 11 × 14 in to $1,290 for 32 × 40 in, framed and ready to hang.
