A golden anniversary is usually given by children and grandchildren. What do you give two people who have built fifty years together? Something that holds the beginning. We compute the point directly overhead at their wedding date, time and place and find the real catalogued galaxy nearest to it that is still unassigned.

The print is a telescope photograph of that galaxy, framed with their names, the place and the date. Its catalogue number and coordinates are printed on it, so the grandchildren can look it up themselves.

If the family would rather each have a print of their own, the Family Collection is four in matching frames, each the galaxy above one person's birth.

• The date and place are on the marriage certificate.
• The time is often in the wedding album, the church record or family memory. If not, choose a best guess.
• The words: up to sixty characters, for example Margaret & Thomas · 50 years.

The traditional fiftieth gift is gold. The lettering on the print is in a warm gold tone; it is printed, not metal. What makes the piece precious is not its material but the fact that it was made from their day, and that the galaxy is assigned to no one else.
